EARRING POSTS & SCREWS

Posts or Screws are worn behind the ear to secure the earring in place. These are very essential for precious jewellery and for long time wear. There are different types of screws used as per comfort of user. Most commonly preferred screwsin Indian market, for precious jewellery are:

  1. Butterfly / Bombay Screw
  2. Screw Back / South Screw

Bombay Screw / Butterfly Back:

Most precious jewellery makers use these screws for all types of earrings. These screws are safe for daily wear products. They provide balance for the earring so that it stays close to the ear. These are light weight and easy to wear. For this type of back post the earring stem has screw threads so that the back post can easily be tightened. This type of screw is durable, easy to clean, hygienic and is worn mostly by younger generation and children for continuous usage.

South Screw / Screw Back:

South Screw is considered the safest form of posts for earrings. These function like a screw that needs to be inserted into the stem with internal threads and tightened in place. It is considered as the safest mechanism because it cannot unscrew on its own. However this type of screw may not be suitable for all, as the stem in this case is thick and may be difficult to insert. It is on the expensive side & difficult for quick usage. This type is mostly used by higher age users for continuous wear.
